Einleitung

The workshop will introduce the participants to Generative AI. The workshop will be a mixture of technical and non-technical parts. We will delve into machine learning including hands on code, basics of how generative models are different from non-generative machine learning systems and introduce the open-source ecosystem that surrounds these developments. We will also cover the history of AI and how we got here to the current moment with Generative AI, where machine learning is going and have (moral) philosophical discussions on the the latest ethical/existential debates ongoing in the AI community.

The workshop will take place in English.

Programm

  • History of AI (leading to Generative AI)

  • What is Generative AI?

    • How is it different from non-generative machine learning?

    • Introduction to Large Language Model and Stable Diffusion

    • Open-Source Ecosystem around Generative AI

    • Demonstration and Discussions

  • Hands-on Implementation

    • Using Open-source models in Generative AI

    • Introduction to Prompt Engineering

    • Fine-tuning models

      • Introducing technical complexities like compute requirements, low precision training etc.

  • Group Discussions on Generative AI Risks

    • Generative ML going forward

    • Ethical Risk Debate

    • Existential Risk Debate

Kursziel

The goal is to introduce the participants to state-of-the-art in generative machine learning, how we got here, where does the entire open-source ecosystem sit in this moment and the debates surrounding it. The hope is to demystify the current progress in generative machine learning and make sure the participants, by end of the workshop, have enough understanding to make critical judgments themselves about generative models in their respective fields and also be able to take up further learning, if they so wish.

Adressaten

The workshop is aimed at anyone interested in understanding different aspects of generative AI. Since the workshop is a mixture of technical and non-technical parts, the hope is that different participants will find something to take back from this. For the non-technical participants, however, it is expected that they engage themselves in the technical sections – there will be coding involved and potentially some mathematics.

Voraussetzungen

The participants should bring their laptops.

Infrastruktur

Please install the following on your machine before coming to the workshop. Depending on your operating system (Windows, Linux or Mac), the installations are different. If you are completely unable to do this, we can also try to do that during the workshop separately.

  • Git

  • Docker

  • OpenAI account (you get $18 free credit)

  • Google Account, if you don’t already have one.

This is subject to some updates. The participants will be informed in time.
